Dental implants can be used for multiple or single tooth replacement in Indianapolis, IN
Many patients come to Washington Street Dentistry looking for a comprehensive solution to address missing teeth. Dental Implants can be a great solution, whether a single tooth is missing or an entire arch of teeth. Bringing affordable, effective dental solutions to our patients is always one of our top priorities because we understand that restoring smiles can improve oral health as well as self-esteem and confidence.
When patients are faced with tooth loss they have multiple options. The biggest difference between dental implants and other procedures is permanence. Crowns and bridges require the support of adjacent teeth, while dentures sit on top of the gums. Dental implants are the only option that actually replaces the natural tooth roots.
The dental implant procedure is not a quick fix, as it requires multiple appointments over the course of several months. The first step is a consultation in which Dr. Church will assess the health of the mouth. Ideal candidates for implants must have good oral health. The mouth will need to be free of decay or gum disease and the jawbone must be sufficient in order to support the implant.
The procedure itself is performed in our office under local anesthetic. Once the implant is in place, the gum tissue will be secured on top of the implant and it will be left to heal over several months. During this process, the jawbone will fuse with the implant to hold it in place.
After this healing process is complete, patients will come back to the office to have the abutment placed. The abutment is the portion of the dental implant that will affix to the prosthetic restoration. The area will once again need to heal before the permanent restoration can be placed. Depending on the case, the patient may have a crown, bridge, or denture affixed to the implants.
Implants are appropriate for patients who are missing one or several teeth. If you are in the Indianapolis, IN area and would like to see your smile restored, call us today to learn more about the benefits of tooth implants.
