We understand that you may desire a more attractive smile. With orthodontic treatment tailored to your specific needs, your smile can become more cohesive, and your oral health improved. Perhaps you have long desired a better smile, but you feel apprehensive about treatment due to the look of traditional braces. Most people would prefer to avoid sporting a “metal mouth,” and today there is a solution.

At Washington Street Dentistry, you can improve your smile and even correct certain bite issues without anyone noticing you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. By using Invisalign, we provide personalized orthodontic treatment that is both comfortable and discreet. Our patients from Indianapolis and surrounding areas like Lawrence and Anderson can straighten their teeth with Invisalign, improving oral health and increasing confidence.

Invisalign aligner trays are customized appliances made to apply gentle pressure to the teeth, urging them into alignment. These trays are comfortable, and easy to care for. Because they are removable, Invisalign aligners allow you to continue eating all the foods you love, while maintaining optimal oral health through unimpeded brushing and flossing. Aligners should be worn approximately 22 hours a day. They can be removed, however, not only for meals but also for special engagements such as a presentation at work or a date.

To begin Invisalign treatment in our Indianapolis practice, we take several pictures of your teeth. These images are displayed on a screen, allowing us to work side by side with you to determine the best course of action. We will listen to your concerns and aesthetic goals, and provide a professional opinion on how the smile can be improved. During this initial visit, we will devise a plan and estimate the duration of treatment.

Our staff is extensively trained in providing Invisalign treatment, and can see you through successful treatment for a more beautiful smile. If you live in the areas within and surrounding Indianapolis, including New Palestine and Cumberland, contact Washington Street Dentistry to see how Invisalign can address your concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Invisalign treatment?

Metal braces have been the standard for straightening teeth. Conventional braces use metal wires and brackets to apply controlled pressure on your teeth, gradually moving them into newly straightened positions.

Invisalign uses the same principle but without metal appliances. Instead, Invisalign uses nearly invisible aligners created from patented SmartTrack material. Invisalign is discreet, and the aligners are removable when brushing and eating. Ultimately, Invisalign allows teens and adults to straighten their teeth with minimal interruptions.

What can I expect from the treatment?

Invisalign treats numerous orthodontic issues, including overlapping, gapped, and misaligned teeth. It also addresses malocclusions like overbites, underbites, and crossbites. Whatever your smile objectives, the treatment starts with a consultation with a licensed provider. The dentist inspects your teeth and overall health to determine your eligibility for Invisalign.

Your treatment involves 3D technology to simulate your treatment plan. This way, the dentist can predict when and how your teeth move at every phase of your treatment. Our Invisalign lab will create customized aligners based on your treatment plan. Most patients need 18-30 aligners to complete treatment.

The aligners must be worn for at least 20-22 hours. They should only be removed when eating or cleaning teeth. You can also remove them during a date or when making a presentation.

Can I eat with Invisalign aligners?

It would help if you didn’t eat or drink anything except water when wearing your Invisalign aligners. Doing this could damage or stain your aligners. Invisalign’s removable convenience is one of its significant benefits. It means you can eat all your favorite foods, unlike metal braces that come with a long list of forbidden foods. It also means you brush and floss your teeth without navigating wires and brackets. This ensures your oral health is well-maintained at all times.

Are Invisalign aligners painful?

Not at all! Invisalign is designed with your comfort in mind. The aligners are created from professional-grade thermoplastic. Your aligners are smooth and gentle on your gums and cheeks—there are no sharp edges or pokey wires to irritate your soft tissues.

You’ll only experience mild discomfort when moving from one set to another. However, any tenderness or tightness you experience only lasts 1-2 days without intervention. However, if you have low pain tolerance, you can consider over-the-counter pain medications.

Do I need a retainer after Invisalign treatment?

You must wear a retainer after orthodontic care with traditional braces or Invisalign. Orthodontic appliances move teeth by remodeling the bone and surrounding tissues. When your orthodontic appliances come off, the periodontal tissues still “remember” the original tooth positions. Without a retainer, the teeth can snap back to their old, misaligned positions, much like a stretched rubber band returning to its original shape. Orthodontic relapse means you start your treatment all over again!
