Dental practice in Indianapolis provides the utmost comfort during tooth extractions

When the wisdom teeth emerge from the gum line, they can become impacted between the jawbone and gum tissue. This can result in swelling and pain surrounding the wisdom teeth. Patients in their late teenage years and early 20s often seek the team at Washington Street Dentistry in Indianapolis for relief. When tooth extractions are necessary, highly skilled and respected dentist Dr. Matthew Church and our compassionate dental team do all we can to make the procedures as comfortable and pain-free as possible. We can provide local anesthetic as well as other sedatives that can ease anxiety and prevent pain.

We can extract wisdom teeth before or after they emerge from the gum line. After wisdom teeth emerge, they may cause other teeth to shift. Therefore, we often recommend removing them. Patients can rest assured they are in gentle hands with Dr. Church and our team. We can provide sedation dentistry to ease the nerves. We offer oral conscious sedation as well as nitrous oxide. With both forms of sedation, patients may feel groggy but typically can relax throughout the procedures.

Oral conscious sedation involves prescribing sedatives in pill form that are taken before the procedure. The medication can provide a mild to moderate level of sedation, depending on the dose. We will recommend coordinating transportation to and from the procedure.

Nitrous oxide is known as “laughing gas.” Before the procedure, we will gently place a comfortable mask over the nose. The moderate form of sedation kicks in quickly and wears off quickly. Patients can drive home after the appointment.

During a consultation appointment, Dr. Church will examine your mouth, teeth, and gums. Digital x-rays may be taken as well. If you are a candidate for a tooth extraction, Dr. Church will explain your sedation options. He will devise a treatment plan with you that will include what to expect before, during, and after treatment. You can rest assured Dr. Church will provide instructions to ensure optimal healing and recovery after the procedure.

At Washington Street Dentistry, you can count on a highly skilled team that listens to concerns and promptly addresses needs. Have you experienced any symptoms of impacted teeth? An extraction may be the ideal solution. To learn more about the procedure, call our friendly team at (317) 333-6788 today.
